It’s the most wonderful time of the year, right? With so much joy and fun to go around, how could anyone not love the Christmas season?
Now, before we go any further, I want to make a note here – I know, I know it’s Advent, a time of preparation leading up to Christmas Day and the twelve days of the liturgical Christmas season that goes from Christmas to Epiphany. But I’m going to guess that more than a few of us already have decorations up, trees twinkling, and perhaps maybe some presents purchased or even wrapped. So… bear with me in this, okay? This year, as we talk about the Grinch, you’ll hear me mention the Christmas season as meaning the much broader, American cultural idea of it instead of Christmas in the strictly liturgical sense. And really, the Christmas story, the coming of the Son of God in the form of a child – both fully God and fully human – is so much bigger than just the twelve liturgical days of Christmas. We’ll let it spill over a bit. |
